There is nothing more comforting than the smell of fresh baked bread, except maybe the taste! Whether you prefer savory or sweet, we have the perfect seasoning to elevate your next homemade bread recipe!
Seasonings for Sweet Breads
Sweet breads come in a multitude of flavors and varieties, making them an favorite to satisfy a sweet craving at our house. Plus, you can eat them for breakfast, as a snack, or an after-dinner treat!
Cinnamon
Our Saigon cinnamon is stronger and sweeter than typical store-bought cinnamon. It contains the highest content of cinnamon oil and is an excellent spice for baking. It holds up well and compliments the many other flavors often included in sweet breads. It is a key ingredient in our favorite Cinnamon Swirl Banana Bread from Sally’s Baking Addiction, and we wouldn’t make a zucchini bread without it.
Apple Pie Spice
This classic seasoning blend is a must-have for any baker’s kitchen. Although it is most commonly used in recipes with apples, try adding it to almost any recipe that calls for cinnamon and nutmeg. This blend’s hint of cardamom also makes it a favorite addition to carrot cake and zucchini bread.
Pumpkin Pie Spice
This classic combination of cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg is a perfect compliment to the tantalizing sweetness of most sweet breads. An obvious addition to Pumpkin Bread, our Pumpkin Pie Spice also adds an incredible depth of flavor to breads made with raisins.
Cocoa Powder (Natural) & Dutch Cocoa Powder
If you are making a chocolate bread, look no further than our cocoa powders! The rich, intense and bittersweet flavor of our natural cocoa powder is a great addition to baked goods, like sweet breads.
Looking for an even more decadent flavor? Try our Dutch Cocoa Powder! Dutch processed cocoa powder includes the addition of an alkali, typically baking soda, to neutralize cocoa’s natural bitterness. This results in a powder that is richer, darker and slightly sweeter than natural cocoa powder. We absolutely love it in this Double Chocolate Zucchini Bread recipe! This recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction calls for natural cocoa powder, but we like to amp up the flavor with Dutch Cocoa Powder.
Raspberry Dip Mix
The sweet, yet tart, raspberry flavor in our Raspberry Dip Mix is an exceptional compliment to the richness of chocolate. We can think of no better addition to your next chocolate bread or batch of muffins!
Spice Cake Blend
Our newest baking spice blend combines the flavors of pineapple and carrot with favorites like cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom. This unique baking blend is a sweet and delicious addition to sweet breads like zucchini, pumpkin, raisin and banana. Try it in your next bundt cake or carrot cake as well!
Extracts
Almost no sweet bread can be made without the luscious, creamy flavor of pure vanilla. Whether you prefer the bold, clean and creamy flavor of Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla, or the sweet and smoky taste of Mexican Vanilla, we have you covered! Our high quality vanilla extracts have a superior flavor and are made with no artificial ingredients.
Although vanilla is the go-to flavor for many sweet breads, there are a multitude of other extract options that can really amp up a sweet bread recipe. For classics like Blueberry Lemon Bread or Lemon Poppy Seed Bread, give our Lemon Extract a try! Or really get creative with our Cherry, Blueberry, Pomegranate, Orange, and Almond extracts!
Seasoning for Savory Breads
While Classic White and Italian breads require little ornamentation, sometimes it can be fun to spice things up a bit! Check out our favorite seasonings for savory breads:
Cheddar Jalapeno Sprinkle
This savory and spicy combo of cheddar cheese and jalapeno and chipotle chilies can really take bread to the next level. Add a teaspoon or two to your next batch of regular white or wheat bread. Or mix in beer bread or monkey bread. And, of course, it can’t be beat in cornbread muffins!
White Cheddar Garlic Seasoning
Our White Cheddar Garlic Seasoning is the perfect blend of rich, cheesy goodness and savory garlic. Like our Cheddar Jalapeno Sprinkle, try adding this to a white or wheat bread recipe. Or mix it with melted butter and spread on hot dinner rolls, or over a toasted French baguette or crusty Italian bread.
Italian Seasoning
The beautiful colors and fresh flavors of our Italian Seasoning are a great way to elevate a simple bread recipe. Simply add 1 tbsp or so to your next batch of Italian bread. This blend is also a great addition to pizza dough.
Parmesan Pizza Shake
Although this blend is most commonly used on the rich dishes served with bread, we also love it in bread itself! Use our Parmesan Pizza Shake much the same way as Italian Seasoning, by adding it directly to Italian bread recipes or pizza dough. Or mix it with melted butter and spread on hot rolls or crusty bread, then toast.
Everything Bagel Seasoning
This simple seasoning combines the nutty flavors of sesame seeds and poppy seeds with the savory garlic and onion. Shake this blend on top of breads or rolls before baking, or mix directly into your batter. Oh, and it’s a great topping for bagels. Give it a try in our Easy Everything Bagels recipe!
