I had originally thought that most American families cook a very similar meal on Christmas Day to that of Thanksgiving dinner with turkey being the center piece. However, after contemplating my own family’s cooking habits, I realized that not everyone prepares the same meal. My family generally opts for ham on Christmas Day while my in-laws lean towards turkey. When the time comes for me to host Christmas dinner I will most certainly be serving beef as the main dish; perhaps a nice brisket or even a prime rib (yum!).
Americans love tradition, there’s no disputing that; but, when it comes to Christmas Day the question remains…is there a “traditional” American Christmas meal? Thanksgiving is very traditional all on its own, therefore, I say be creative when it comes to Christmas meal planning! Throw out tradition and simply go for something you know the whole family will enjoy. For example, my family is all about the beef, so I know a tender brisket or a juicy prime rib will be the center piece to my Christmas meal. Whatever you choose to make this Christmas, strive to keep it stress free. Easier said than done right?!
