Poultry is a healthy, economic protein that lends itself to a variety of dishes and cuisines. We love all types of poultry, from chicken wings and thighs, to whole roasted or ground turkey, and even Cornish game hen and pheasant. We have complied a list of our favorite poultry seasonings, so you can begin to appreciate “the birds” just as much as we do!
Seasonings for Chicken
An extremely versatile protein, chicken can be flavored with just about any seasoning. From grilled chicken breasts to wings, or even a whole roasted bird, here are some of our favorites:
Our BBQ Chicken blend was created specifically for chicken, but it is also amazing on almost anything on the grill! This blend combines classic barbecue flavors like paprika, brown sugar and mustard with poultry staples such as coriander, celery seed, and marjoram. Try sprinkling it on chicken (obviously), pork, beef, shrimp, veggies…quite honestly anything you can think of! Apply heavy or light to taste. Also makes a great addition to other types of roast poultry such as turkey and Cornish game hen.
Heat & Honey
Turn up the heat on barbecue! Our Heat and Honey is the perfect blend of sweet honey and fiery chiles, with just a hint of citrus. This blend is wonderful on just about any grilled meat. We love it on burgers, steaks, chicken, shrimp, and salmon. Sprinkle it on your next set of chicken wings!
Blackening, a process perfected by Chef Paul Prudhome of K-Pauls in New Orleans, produces a black, peppery crust, which sears in all the flavors and juices. Blackened Seasoning is a great choice for meats on the grill, especially chicken and catfish. It is also a great seasoning to liven up fries, vegetables, salads and eggs.
Honey BBQ Blend
Looking for the perfect seasoning for anything on the grill? Look now further than our Honey BBQ Blend. Sweet and smokey, this blend is delicious on chicken wings and thighs. Or sprinkle on steak, burgers, brisket, and ribs. This blend is fairly mild, yet super flavorful, making it a great crowd-pleaser. Try it out at your next barbecue!
Fresh herbs and citrus contrast with spicy cinnamon and nutmeg for authentic Greek flavor in our Greek Seasoning. Delicious on grilled chicken or fish, or mix into beef or lamb burgers. An obvious seasoning for kabobs and gyros, this blend also makes for an interesting twist on tacos! We also love it on whole roast chicken or in our Wild Rice Soup!
Craving even more Greek flavor? Sprinkle some Mojito Lime Seasoning on chicken breasts, then cook on the grill. Slice up the chicken and throw it in a soft taco with some feta cheese and tzatziki sauce. Top with fresh tomato, cucumber and red onion. Yum!
The fragrant herbs dill and tarragon combine with citrus, black pepper and caraway to make our Scandinavian Spice an excellent choice for poultry, fish, and large cuts of meat like pot roast, pork loin and rack of lamb. Also try in vegetable and egg dishes, add to breads, or mix with olive oil and use a bread dip!
Seasonings for Turkey
Turkey isn’t just for the holidays anymore! This delicious and healthy protein makes a great weeknight meal, or make it the star of your next family barbecue. Ground turkey is also a low-fat alternative to ground beef in a variety of recipes. Many of the seasonings we suggest for chicken are great on turkey as well, but here are some of our favorites just for turkey:
Exquisite in its simplicity, this flavorful blend is the perfect compliment to domestic poultry like turkey and chicken, as well as wild fowl like pheasant and Cornish game hen. Our Wild Turkey starts with a foundation of sea salt, black pepper and garlic, and is completed by the classic flavors of rosemary, thyme and sage. This blend is excellent for roasting or smoking whole birds, as well as baking and grilling smaller cuts like chicken breasts.
Old World Rub
Our Old World Rub brings together all of the flavors of traditional European cooking. Fresh herbs combine with the slight spiciness of black pepper, fennel and brown mustard seed to make a blend that is wonderful on poultry, beef and pork roast, and rack of lamb. It is also a great choice for Thanksgiving turkey and Prime Rib.
The delicious flavors of pepper, herbs and citrus make our Brining Spices an excellent compliment to lean proteins like pork, poultry and shrimp. But of course, they will always be at the top of the list when it comes to turkey. Seasonings for Waterfowl & Pheasant
Preparing wild game like duck, goose and pheasant can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. These proteins are often regarded as gamey and unpleasant in flavor. However, with the right seasonings and cooking practices, these rich and flavorful proteins can be the star of your dinner table!
Just one taste of our Caribbean Spice will have you dreaming of sandy beaches and sunny skies! Bright citrus flavor, combine with classic Caribbean spices like nutmeg and clove, and just the right amount of heat, make this blend one of our absolute favorites! A wonderful addition to duck or pork, our Caribbean Spice is also excellent on chicken wings, fish tacos, and seafood dishes.
The addition of juniper berries gives this blend a distinctive tang, without overpowering any of the other flavors. These flavors pair perfectly with the richness of game meats like pheasant.
