Wasabi Powder
1/2 cup jar – 1.5 oz.
Ingredients – Horseradish, Ascorbic Acid, Citric Acid, Artificial Colors (FD & Yellow #5, FD & C Blue #1), Cornstarch
Wasabi powder is commonly referred to as Japanese Horseradish, and is often used to make a light green colored condiment with a fiery, pungent flavor, commonly enjoyed with sushi. The heat of wasabi is more akin to that of hot mustard than the that of the capsaicin in a chili pepper. The flavor of this spice is initially very intense but dulls quickly. This is because the burning sensations associated with wasabi are not oil-based, unlike those of chili peppers.
Our wasabi powder is a less expensive alternative to pure wasabi powder, which is very rare and nearly 14 times as expensive. This powder still packs a fiery punch however, and can be used to make the paste commonly used as a condiment with Asian cuisine. Simply mix equal parts powder with tepid water and allow the paste to sit for 10-15 minutes. Try combing with soy sauce to create a traditional sushi or sashimi dip. Or use in place of horseradish or mustard when you’re in need of an extra spicy kick.
