Mustard is a very old herb that has been used since the earliest recorded history. It is even referred to in the Bible as the “greatest among herbs.” There are three different types of mustard: white or yellow, brown and black. Mustard has little distinct aroma in seed form or even when ground. This is because mustard contains an enzyme called myrosinase, which only creates the typical hot and spicy flavor typical of mustard when it comes into contact with liquids.
Our mustard powder is ground from yellow mustard seeds grown right here in the United States. Ground mustard makes a great addition to rubs, sauces, and dressing. It can also be used to make the famous condiment by adding it to water or vinegar.
