Cilantro is actually the leafy greens off of the coriander plant. Coriander can grow to almost three feet tall and has slender stems that branch out. Cilantro leaves have a clean and somewhat lemon flavor.
The coriander plant is one of the more famous herbs throughout history as it has been found in Pharaoh’s tombs, is mentioned in the Bible, and was a favorite among Hebrew, Greek, and Roman royalty. It is native to the Middle East and Southern Europe, however it is now grown around the world.
Cilantro is commonly used in Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern, Peruvian, and Mexican dishes. Try combining with rice, chicken, fish, chilies, lamb, pork, salsa, sour cream, mayo, tomatoes, and salad.
