Chile Pequin

Pequin chilies are small, oval-shaped chilies that often grow wild in the mountains of Mexico. Despite their size, these tiny chilies pack a punch and are about 10 times hotter than a jalapeno. They rank at about an 8.5 on a heat scale and between 40,000 and 60,000 heat units (HU) on the Scoville scale (the scale most commonly used to classify heat in capsaicin containing foods). Pequin chilies have a sweet, citrus-like flavor in addition to their exceptional heat. They are a great addition to salsas, chilies, stews, and sauces.
