Sumac is derived from the fruit of a bush native to the Middle East. Sumac imparts a sourness to dishes and is used in the same manner as lemon juice or vinegar. It is often used to bring out the naturally occurring flavors in foods and works well in conjunction with other spices like garlic, cumin, coriander, thyme, sesame seed, and paprika. It is a main ingredient in the Middle Eastern spice blends Za’atar and Dukkah and it is the centerpiece of our Mediterranean-inspired blend, Red Rocks Seasoning.
